Why Eat Whole Foods?

In order for big brands to mass produce food at cheap rates, they use dangerous chemicals and synthetic additives to preserve and enhance flavors. That means we are no longer eating whole, real foods. These chemicals are toxic when consumed regularly, and they have a noticeable negative impact on our wellbeing. Food additives and preservatives have been linked to cancer, asthma, attention deficit disorder, weight gain, heart disease, depression, neurological disorders, bowel symptoms, and more.

Most packaged foods you find at the grocery store contain preservatives and unhealthy ingredients masked as ‘flavor.’ In fact, the ingredient name “natural flavor” often disguises the chemical MSG, which is a known carcinogen and killer of brain cells. MSG linked to devastating side effects, yet it is found in an estimated 80% of processed foods.

The Importance of Whole Foods

In order for our bodies to function at their highest levels, we need to fuel ourselves with whole foods supplied to us by nature. Our bodies need the natural vitamins and minerals found in real foods. Eating whole foods has been shown to reduce obesity, decrease depression and anxiety, and increase lifespan.

Whole foods are those that don’t contain any added chemicals to preserve or enhance flavor. Fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and organic proteins are typically free of added chemicals. Check the ingredients list and do your research before ever assuming that there are no added chemicals in a packaged food. Check out our real foods guide for more help.

The Transition to Whole Foods

Making the transition from chemically engineered foods to whole foods can be a challenge at first. It can feel disheartening and frustrating at times. The hardest part might be realizing that almost everything you were consuming had some sort of added chemical. Reminder to be mindful and compassionate to yourself through this process. There may be times when avoiding processed foods is not an option, and that’s ok! Just try your best.

We too went through this process and can tell you that once you do make the switch, your relationship with food will change for the better. The key is developing an awareness of what you’re ingesting and realizing you are consuming the power of nature with each bite! You’ll start to notice your energy levels increase, brain fog decreases, your digestion improves, you’ll have fewer mood swings, menstruation symptoms dissipate, and you’ll notice a healthy glow. Your cravings will completely shift as your body starts yearning for the nourishment of fruits and vegetables rather than the chemicals it had been ingesting for years. When your body is adequately nourished, your mind and wellbeing follow.
